Until all living humans read this book....
This quote from The Fault in Our
Stars definitely described this novel beautifully. John Green has a gift
to write and he shares this gift with people around the world. We loved
this novel and we recommend all of you to try reading it yourself. This
novel demonstrates that true love goes beyond sickness and health; it also
taught us various life lessons. Of Course everyone has their own favorite
reading genre or author but it is always good to try new things. We guarantee
that this novel will help you see life in a whole new way; it will help you be
thankful for the life you live today :)
Poem- Wish Granting Machines
A poem about TFiOS.
~~~The world~~~
is not a wish
granting factory.
Is what she says,her story telling
her it can be.
Her miracle coming in the likely form
of an angel.
An angel she calls a
friend,
a good friend,
a friend who
understands,
a friend who loves
her,
so much,
for who she is,
and her dreams,
however impossible
and unrealistic.
My thoughts stars
I can't fathom into
constellations.
Maybe the fault,dear Brutus,
isn't in our stars,
but in ourselves.
The fault that we
find,
human nature for
caring,
human nature for
giving,
a nature causing us,
to fall apart,
to love and be
broken.
But sometimes that
love,
is the key in
defeating the stars,
our destiny written
and being rewritten,
no matter the laws
of time
and space.
Our stars, bringing the patient
fate
that has followed us
since we learned of
life.
Delivering it on our
doorstep,
in our arms,
leaving a pile of
good
and bad things.
The good things don't necessarily
cancel out the bad
things
and the bad things
don't necessarily
cancel out the good
things,
but what you do,
what you feel
you pick out of that
pile of stuff
fate delivers to
you.
You are the person
you choose to be,
no matter what
others think of you,
no matter what
others
tell you to do.
You are the person
you choose to be,
and if you listen
to their complaints
and stereotypical
dreams,
then that
is who you can
become.
If you listen
to your heart,
you get to recreate the idea you have of yourself.
You are the person
who decides what
you're going to do
with your life,
day in and day out.
You have to attempt
to make something
for yourself
that is worth living
for,
that is worth
fighting for.
The phrase
'Are you okay?'
doesn't mean much.
Something we say,
just reaffirming
the thin veil of
fantasy
that we have put
over ourselves,
telling ourselves
that it has got to
get better.
It doesn't.
Sometimes,you die of a heart shattered
into a billion
pieces,
friends frantically
trying to sweep up
the fragments, shoving the piles
of the pieces into
your hands
hurting you more
than
when they were
spread away from you,
when you could not
care about it anymore.
Sometimes,
your friends help
you stand up,
help you put back
the pieces of
the shattered life
that you live,
slowly rebuilding,
giving time for the
wounds
to lessen their
pain,
and for you to
loosen your grip on fantasies.
Tightening our grip
on humanity,
one of the scariest
things
that you can do,
but at one point or
another,
it has to be done.
But in response to
the question,
no matter the tears
running down their
face,
their broken lives,
broken hearts,
broken from the
inside out,
hurt so much that you see it in their eyes.
Everyone feels
the need to say:
Okay.
Book Review Cont'd...
My Thoughts
Augustus and Hazel are a cute couple, who are truly
embodied with love and affection for one another. Cancer is the antagonist in
this novel. It is such a horrible disease which ruins the lives of so many
people. It takes away loved ones and leaves those still alive lonely. John
Green’s novel The Fault in Our Stars is not a novel just about life with
cancer, but life beyond the disease. Through Green’s characters he shows us
that cancer is only the devil if we live our life based on the disease, in
other words we live a life of fear, worry and burden. We must look past our
illness and enjoy everything life has to offer with or without our disease.
This story is told through Hazel’s perspective. The entire story revolves
around her life. Both Hazel and her lover Augustus have cancer but they try to
enjoy the life the have each day. Throughout the novel you feel a deep
connection with each of Green’s characters, and this allows readers to connect
with the story line. If I could rate this book on a scale to 1 to 10 I would
give it a 7.5. It was a fast but good read. I enjoyed the fact that it helped
me appreciate my life more. Sometimes we tend to complain about the smallest of
things while we never stop to think about someone else who probably has the
worst situation possible. I am fortunate in so may ways and I am blessed for
the life I have today :)
A blend of melancholy, sweet, philosophical, and funny. Green shows us true love…and it is far more romantic than any sunset on the beach.” -New York Times Book Review
Reader Journal
This book was a collection of feelings. When the characters were happy, so was I. When they cried, I cried (Thanks John!). This book was a rollercoaster of emotions and I intend to tell you why. I’m breaking this down mainly by page number so I can give you a play by play of my thoughts.
Pg. 17 “His every syllable flirted.” Wonderful way to show flirtation.
Pg. 19 What is a Hamartia? And I love that it’s a word I don’t know, but now I do, and I love it and I love that John Green put it in the book knowing that most people wouldn’t know what it meant and they’d have to look it up.
Pg. 72 “Caroline is no longer suffering from personhood.” What a lovely way to say someone has died. LOL!
Pg. 20 “You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do it’s killing.” I love this metaphor. It’s so simple and symbolic. I talks specifically about smoking, but really it can speak to anything that you fear. Because when you confront the thing that you are afraid of or that you believe can or is killing you and you literally and physically have control over it killing or scaring you, it’s the ultimate comfort. The ultimate sense of power. That you can control the thing that you are so frightened of, the thing you believe can kill you. I absolutely adore this.
Pg. 34 “I am going to read this terrible book with the boring title that does not contain stormtroopers.” Little one liners like these make me realize how adorable Augustus is and how much I wish he was a REAL.
Pg. 63 “That’s the thing about pain,” Augustus said, and then glanced back at me. “It demands to be felt.” Ugh, I LOVE this because it’s so true. Love and Pain seem to be the strongest of emotions... There are just times when the pain of something is so incredibly intense...there is nothing else to do BUT feel it.
Pg. 72 “Caroline is no longer suffering from personhood.” What a lovely way to say someone has died. LOL!
Once Upon A Book Review....
My Thoughts
Before I read this book, I read a few of the reviews that said that the way these teenagers talk and act in certain situations isn’t realistic because they act too grown up. And while, I agree that my friends and I don’t seem to talk like the teenagers do in this book in real life, I thought it really worked for the book.
Hazel and Augustus maybe have had to grow up before they were ready, and had to adapt maturely to certain situations while expressing themselves in very intellectual ways, and I enjoyed reading all those moments.The romance between Hazel and Augustus is the charming part of the story, and I’m glad that they were able to find love. even though it only lasted for a little while.
I think my favorite aspect of the book was the realness. Although I suppose I can’t really speak to that, since I’ve never actually gone through it personally. Maybe I should say that I appreciated the honest quality of the book. I really, really dislike books that have unrealistic views on life. This seemed much more true to life.
The only thing I didn’t like about the book was that the characters, specifically Hazel and Augustus, seemed a little exaggerated. I guess it was necessary, but it still bothered me a little bit. Then again, I did like how he contrasted Hazel’s awkwardness about her looks and other “normal” teenage issues with her ability to think and speak so profoundly. You could definitely tell she and Augustus were torn between two worlds. I cannot begin to imagine what that would be like to be any of the characters in the novel. I guess that’s why it’s so hard for me to form an opinion on those aspects.
Finally, this book really made me think about the impact that each individual has and the mark we leave on Earth. Hazel is content with just living and dying. On the other hand, Augustus believes that he needs to make a name for himself in the world. He needs to be remembered, be important.
The world is a huge place – there are millions of people living and even more that are dead. It really makes you think how small you really are in the world. But I do think that it is important to live life to the fullest and do the things that make you happy, and if you can – make others happy.
Life isn’t all about yourself. It’s about who you are, who you connect with, and the legacy you leave behind on Earth. Good, evil, happiness, sadness, wealth, health. Live life to the fullest.
I really enjoyed The Fault in our Stars and thought it was a wonderful book. For me, it was a book that made me stop and think and most of all it made me feel.
Bottom Line: Read it.
Photo tour!
The fictional hero and heroine, Hazel and Augustus, live on the north side of Indianapolis and there are several specific and real places where scenes in the book take place. We became determined to venture to Indianapolis and set out on a quest to visit some of these locations. It helped that I am from Indianapolis and we had already planned a trip there to visit my mother, sister, and aunt. It also helped that the locations mentioned in the book are all within a stone's throw from my sister's house and it really helped that my sister actually worked at one of these locations which would otherwise not have been that easy to gain access. So, off we go then!
The Fault In Our Stars (No Plot Spoilers!) TFiOS
My all-time favorite song is written by Australian YouTuber, Troye Sivan (well known for his role in X men: Origins as young Wolverine) :)
I love the lyrics, and they totally made me cry. I admit I'm pretty dubious to online current events but this is the first time that I am hearing about this guy -- but tell you what? I already love him not just because he created such a moving song with an equally touching vidbut also because he kinda reminds me of Augustus Waters. I know the song is Hazel-ish because of the "tank" and all that but I kept picturing Augustus.
My Fav Quotes!~
Gus is a strong believer in metaphor's, he places a cigar between his teeth for the pleasure of looking like the "cool kids" or the mystery of why people think smoking is cool. However Gus is in control of the object. By never lighting the cigar, it can never take over and do the killing. I love this quote cause it reminds us that whatever the circumstance may be we are always in control of our life and our actions.
References from Shakespeare play Julius Caesar
We cannot always blame the world for our problems, but sometimes there are exceptions, sometimes bad things happen out of our control, like cancer. Also refers to the title of this novel.
